Neuchâtel
Extending from Lake Neuchâtel to the foothills of the Jura, the wine lands on the shores of the Three Lakes Region are characterized by two dominant varieties: Chasselas being the white (locally called Neuchâtel) and Pinot Noir, the red – the single type of red wine authorized by the AOC. In this region, one also finds the unique and highly reputed “Oeil de Perdrix,” a rosé wine made from Pinot Noir. It’s worth mentioning that high-quality sparkling wines, created using traditional methods, are also made in this region. Founded in 1858 by Auguste-Henri Porret, the J.-CH. Porret winery is a family business in its 5th generation. The estate has 7 hectares. The Porrets run the winery with a tremendous sense of tradition, but without foregoing the benefits of new technology. The winery mainly grows Chasselas and Pinot Noir grapes. In 2008 upon occasion of the winery’s 150th anniversary, the Porret family was awarded the Prix d’excellence. In 2010, the Porret family received the Gerle d’Or, the highest wine award in the canton of Neuenburg for the best Chasselas, their 2009 Cortaillod, which may be purchased in our shop.
